Here are 3 types:
Dry Foam cleaning: A foamy shampoo is distributed over the area being cleaned. When it finally dries, it is then vacuumed up.
Dry Chem cleaning: Like foam, but it uses something called a "bonnet.” A large cotton pad is placed on the carpet, and a large handheld machine is put atop of that pad (sort of like a buffer). As it spins and goes left to right, somehow the dirt sticks to that pad. Its sort like an industrial carpet wiping machine.
Dry-Compound cleaning: This is an absorbent saw dust/ chemical mixture that gets spread out all over the area of carpet to be cleaned. Then it's brushed into the carpet and the dirt is absorbed into the saw dust material which is then vacuumed up.
